Tainted Laurels

Tainted Laurels

A Poem by Gypsy Willow

The best of friends

She's being called

Again

She's already given up

To a silver habit

She swore

She'd never again

Embrace

But that vow

Was from a time

When the world

Didn't seem

So dark

She tried

Did as Goddess

Instructed

And yet

Nothing good

Resulted

And she's confused

And she feels so

Betrayed

And so

She succumbed

To the tantalizing

Call

Given by

The demon

That dwells

Inside

A comfort

She could no longer

Refuse

And she's scrambling

Trying to set

Her limits

Completely reprogram

Her do's and don't's

But the demon

Is taunting

Enticing

And promising

Making her wonder

If it'd

Really be

That bad

To turn

From green

To blue

To red

And drop dead

Just let

A single motion

Solve every problem

She's ever known

And finally know

The peace she seeks

The sweetest slumber

And the chance

To start again.
