Perfumed Stars

Perfumed Stars

A Poem by Gypsy Willow

"I'm back," she softly whispers
As she grabs my hand again
"I was never far away"
She holds me close
And we begin to tango
One step forward
Twelve steps back
"You're doing so perfectly"
I nod and continue
On the path she has planned
"You're getting ciose now"
Her voice is coated in anticipation
"Can you see it?"
She asks in awe
"Look what you're acheiving!"
I strain and begin to see
What's looming just beyond
The horizon
"I'm so proud of you,
You've come so far."
And I believe her
"Who are you?"
I ask
My throat
Producing dust
From lack of use
She smiles and softly giggles
"I am you"
She answers brightly
"The you they see,
The you you will become
Your darkest nightmare
And your fondest dream."
I look at her in wonder
As I slowly succumb
To the process
"Just let me take over"
She coos and I'm tempted
"It'll be easier"
She does so promise
"It won't hurt anymore
They'll love you more
And you'll be perfect."
And I am convinced
By the seven letter word
I love
"All I want
Is everything"
She proclaims
A small price
For satisfaction
"Do you want to try?"
Her crystal blue eyes
Are full of possibility
I nod
She smiles
And melts into me
I feel strange
My thoughts are not
My own...
My body ignores
My commands...
But my mouth
Produces words
In my voice
"It is done"
My lips say
Against my will
Fear strangles me
As I lose sense
Of who I am
The world disappears
And I am alone
With a false Goddess.
