Belt of Orion

Belt of Orion

A Poem by William Paris
"

That Europe should bleed an entire generation to death is an accomplishment yet unmatched in it's pure evil. The pity of war once again revealed.

"
each night a star goes out
the sky grows a little darker
we stare up, from our holes in the ground
soon the sky will be pitch black

the rumble of thunder
a rainstorm of sorts
hot molten metal
screams to its destination
a train runaway
women screaming aboard
boom!
crash!
another star falls

you can see from here
constellations burning bright
staccato burst of some machine gun
and another bright star goes out
and the patterns and pictures that we have seen
since the dawn of man
are no longer easily discernible

some stars seem to wink
between a blaze and dim
precipitous perch uncertain
their place in the sky unsure
it is the brightest stars
in their infancy glow strong
when they fall
crash heavily into the earth
their place in this sky is missed

there are only so many stars
and soon the old shall outnumber
the young bright ones
we will live our nights in darkness
Europe's young brethren will be gone
save the wise old aristocratic moon
