The Dark

The Dark

A Poem by William Coad

The dark had better

be afraid of me tonight...

'cause I'm coming.

The dark had better

leave on a light for me...

'cause I'm coming.

The shadow that stretches

and fears the dawn,

those loathsome wretches

and vile spawn.

The dark should damn well

be in fear of me

tonight

The dark better tuck itself in

real tight.

'cause I'm coming.

The dark should cry

itself to sleep tonight.

'cause I'm here.
