Oh Humanity

Oh Humanity

A Poem by William Coad

Oh humanity, humanity

the limit is no longer the sky.

You climbed all up the food chain,

and you really got quite high,

but lest you all forget now,

there's still some favor in my eye-

so don't forget humanity,

there's higher than the sky.

Oh humanity, humanity,

you come in all different shades,

but you won't see them together,

except on special days.

The people of this world, you see

live apart in little clicks,

heaven only knows why,

perhaps we're massive pricks.

Oh humanity, humanity,

you're not as good as you think.

You're not as smart as dolphins,

you're not as strong as sphinx.

You're not as fast as the cheetah,

you're not as tall as the giraffe-

you're even less resilient

than a cockroach in a bath.

Oh humanity, the humanity

you lead in seemingly just one thing.

You lead in your example-

but that's an empty thing.

You fly so high but don't seem to find

the wisdom of your own.

“What goes up must come down,

we're weak when we're alone.”
