RememberA Poem by William FreeRemembrance of the fallen
For all those who have left those they love for war and strife, I will remember them.
For those who have given up peace to fight for ours, I will remember them. For those who’ve been maimed, blinded, driven insane, I will remember them. For those whose lives were torn asunder, we must remember them. For the families left behind, we must remember them. For the men and women who’ve died for us, we must remember them. For the sons and fathers, wives and daughters, left with holes in their lives, we must remember them. For those who will never again embrace their loved ones, we must remember. For every life cut cruelly short by the horrors of war, we must remember them. For each day we live free from fear and oppression, we must remember them. For all who have gone to the final embrace for peace, we will remember them. For every tear shed in their names, we must remember them. For every life saved by their sacrifice, we must remember them. For every child who grows up smiling, we must remember them. For every day they lost and we gained, we must remember them. For those who have served, do serve, and will serve. Canada will never forget them. For the millions torn from this world by war, Canada will never forget them. For every poppy strewn across the graves, Canada will never forget them. I will always remember them, we must always remember them, and Canada will never forget them. © 2014 William Free |
