SHUSH

SHUSH

A Poem by alexAlexander
"

ENJOY THIS ODYSSEY RIDE WITH ME.

"

 SHUSH

A QUIET RENEWAL, IN NEW SKIN:

THIS FRAGMENT OF A SLEEPING

HORIZON; THROUGH THE SKY PULSE.

WHILE DRIFTING AMONG CELESTIAL

ORIGIN, IN UNBOUND HARMONIES

TOWARD THE HYMNS OF NEBULA

THE VOICES BENEATH THE MOON.

PIERCED BY LIGHT, THAT SHUSH

ALL OTHER ROTATION, MIGRATION

ODYSSEY IN CONSTELLATION.

SHUSH! THAT SHAPES THE ENDLESS

SWEEP ACROSS THE LUNAR, QUIETING

THE MIND IS ALL IN THE MIND.

IN THE COMING PRESENCE OF A

HEAVENLY BODY. SHUSH WE’RE

RETURNING TO THE BEGINNING;

THE INFINITE UNIVERSAL, WHILE

SLEEPING ON SATURN’S RING.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN AND ENDS

ONCE UPON A TIME IN SPACE.

UNIVERSAL MEDITATION.

Ahh..a Bunthorn poet, so deeply deep that he must be brilliant. But...since June of 2024 you've posted 25 pieces that have gotten a total of one comment. So perhaps, rather than spewing words that are meaningful only to you, you might want to write for your audience, who has no access to your intent for the meaning of the words.

Mary Oliver's, A Poetry Handbook is a gem, and filled with surprises and insights that might help better communicate your thoughts to the audience.

And if you've seen the G&S operetta, Patience—also known as Bunthorn's Bride—the song, Am I alone and Unobserved, pretty well shows the problem:

Verse 1

If you're anxious for to shine
in the high sthetic line
as a man of culture rare,
You must get up all the germs
of the transcendental terms,
and plant them everywhere.

You must lie upon the daisies
and discourse in novel phrases
of your complicated state of mind,
The meaning doesn't matter
if it's only idle chatter
of a transcendental kind.

And every one will say,
As you walk your mystic way,
"If this young man expresses himself
in terms too deep for me,
Why, what a very singularly deep young man
this deep young man must be!"

A wonderful rendition of the song is sung by Michael Ball, at one of the Proms. My son had the honor of playing Bunthorn in a Pittsburgh performance. It's a FUN role.
