Ready son? Get set.A Poem by Willem GrayA free verse about the journey of life from the perspective of a father, who needs to prepare his son for the race he will embark on. Even though he is unsure himself of what to do on said journey.Ready son? Get set. Go on son you have to run there is no time! No waste you have to stay planted and stay safe from death he is behind you but don’t fear him he is kind in the end that’s his job not yours so focus on winning but not boasting to his face. This is life. This is a race. Stay on your toes and be light on your growing feet but don’t get swept up and don’t be discreet, there is no time for that, yet time is what you need I know this is a lot to take in but it is just a seed that will grow to change the life you are living so look ahead and look for the light. (Is this the race? Is this life?) look left, look right, look up and down and all around. I don’t know! Nobody does this long enough to know where to go! But we will get there! So stay right behind me I know that there is a light because I see it in your eyes. I ramble I don’t know if it’s truth or all lies all I know is we may not win this race but we will look back and see the seeds that grow to trees that may lead others who don’t know where to go and let them start where we left off. With our baton of pursuit and fresh hope in their hearts they will start the next branch of the race. They will head for the light. So keep swinging, keep running until the end comes about so we may meet death with a doubt and ask him where we were headed when our lights go out. © 2016 Willem Gray |
