Chapter 1: The Meteor ShowerA Chapter by Savior of TimeYou never know what can happen during a meteor shower..I’m
a monster hunter… I’m a monster hunter. I can’t fall in love with a monster. I
hunt them, not fall for them… If only I hadn’t gotten that distress call that
one night while babysitting the twins… ~ “Kae woke up in a trance. She felt her body move and saw her legs walk, but she didn’t control them. They took her far away, to a land called Thouonious"“ “Thouonious? What kind of a name is that?” “Sh! Be quiet and let Zia tell the story!” Oh great, the twins are fighting again. For kids who look exactly the same, they have totally different personalities. Wiley's always so calm, so cooperative. Riley on the other hand.. Ugh, he's such a troublemaker. Zia thought to herself. She was babysitting her siblings Wiley and Riley for her parents who were out on a business trip for a week.. Zia threw her curly brown hair behind her shoulder and sighed to herself. Her twin brothers were always a hassle to take care of. She looked out the window and saw streaks across the sky. “Guys, look, a meteor shower!” she said to them. “Oh, cool! Let’s go outside!” Riley said, jumping off the couch before Zia could say anything. Wiley and Zia raced outside to catch up with Riley. They watched as the bright stars fell from the sky. They seem to be falling too close to Earth.. What the..? “Boys! Run inside! Now!” Zia screamed over the stars that seemed to scream as they fell from the sky. With panicked looks, the boys ran inside the wood and brick house. Wiley stopped at the door and turned to his sister. “Wait! Zia! Aren’t you coming?” Wiley asked. “Just go! I’ll be there in a second!” Zia replied. “Be careful!” Looking up into the night sky, the stars seemed to glow brighter with every scream they gave. Laughter rang throughout the sky, but Zia couldn’t pinpoint where it had been coming from. Smile-rounds?
She thought to herself. I hope it’s
just those pesky little brats. Those monsters are always so annoying, with
their huge grins and insane laughter. I better go inside before I go deaf. Zia ran inside with the laughter still ringing in her ears. She shut the door behind her as she stepped through the doorway. “Zia? Are you okay?” the twins asked in unison. “What? Oh, yeah. I’m fine. Are you two okay? Did anything happen in here? Are you hurt?” she asked frantically. “We’re fine. Wiley didn’t get hurt this time,” Riley snickered at his younger twin brother. “Hey, just because I hit my head when I was a baby doesn’t mean I always get hurt!” Wiley snapped. “I’m just messin’ with ya. Jeez, no need to be a sour puss.” “Quit it, both of you,” Zia said. “I’m just glad neither of"“ RING-RING-RING!
RING-RING-RING! RING-RING-RING! Zia had been interrupted by her cell phone going off in the kitchen. “Hold on, guys,” she said. Racing to her phone, she knew exactly who was calling but curious as to why. Just as I thought, it’s the Boss. “Hey Mr. Vern,” Zia spoke into the phone. “No time for casualties, Zia, this is serious. I’m sure you saw, or at the very least heard the meteor shower a few minutes ago, correct?” Mr. Vern said. “Um, yeah, of course. Everyone probably did.” “I need you to check out this spot in your neighborhood on Whisper Way. People are saying one of the meteors crash-landed there, and we don’t know if it’s a monster or not.” “But Mr. Vern, sir, it’s Mari’s shift. Besides, she’s closer to the street and I have to take care of my little brothers,” she said, looking over at the twins. “I know, but Mari’s sick with Klordice and isn’t allowed to leave her house.” “I’m sure it’s just some smile-rounds, can’t someone else do it? I really need to take care of these guys.” “No, no one else can get to it as fast as you can. Just go and I’ll pay you extra for it.” “Hold on, sir,” she said. Holding the phone to her chest, Zia looked over at the boys. “I have to run over to Whisper for a few minutes. Do you think y’all can handle being here without me?” The boys looked at each other for a moment then turned back to Zia. “Course, sis! We know it’s important,” Riley said. “Thanks Riley. That’s very big of you.” Lifting her phone to her ear, Zia spoke to Mr. Vern. “Yes, sir, I’ll be down there in a minute. I’ll check back with you when I find out what it is.” “Thank you Zia. Good-bye,” Mr. Vern said and hung up the phone. Zia ran upstairs to her bedroom, grabbed her cherished silver knife, and threw on her black jacket. “I’ll be home soon. Don’t open the door for anyone, you understand? Mom and Dad aren’t going to be home until next week. If I’m not back in twenty minutes, call the neighbors and go to their house. You understand?” she asked the twins. “Yes, we understand,” they said. “Okay, I love y’all. Bye!” Zia said, running out the door. Running down the road, she heard a distant scream. As she kept running, there seemed to be more and more of them, each louder than the last. “It must be whatever fell in that meteor shower, and to think I was sure it was a smile-round.” Zia said to herself. --- When she reached Whisper a couple minutes later, she saw a huge hole in the road. Standing in the middle of it was a group of about six or seven people. Looking a bit closer at them, Zia saw that the people weren’t actually people. Sprouting from their backs were wings as black as night, and their hair was as white as snow. Zia gasped. “Zarogins.” © 2013 Savior of TimeAuthor's Note
