Chapter 3: PromiseA Chapter by StarcallerThey travel to somewhere familiar and Keagan keeps a promise (Keagan's POV to 3rd person in the asylum)She leads me through the forest down a familiar path and she practically drags me with her. “Why are we going to the lower district?” She doesn’t answer me and continues going. I pull away from her “Why are we here?” she turns around “I have not been here since I was three and I thought maybe if I come here I will remember why.” “Well…okay.” I say as follow reluctantly behind her. “Come with me for a sec.” I tell her, she nods and I lead her through the crowd to small brick building. “Why are we here?” She asks over the bustle of the crowd. “I have a promise to keep.” I knock on the door “Jo!” I call. The door bursts open and a short and skinny girl stands in the doorway. “What da ye want!” Her face is covered in dust, while her short, spiky, red hair is slightly muddy. “Oh hi der Mark…ye visiting us finally?” I smile at her “Gotta once in while right?” She punches me in shoulder “That’s right; now get in ‘ere.” I walk in and take the princess inside so I can keep an eye on her. “Grace! Mark is paying us a visit!” She screams down a small wooden staircase. She walks up the steps with a tray and some glasses. “Coming” She replied in her quiet voice. Jo looks at the princess strangely and opens her mouth to say something but stops and takes a sip of the cold water that Grace just set down. “So is this yer wife?” “No!” the princess and I reply in unison. “Well you two would make a cute couple” She says taking another sip of the water. The princess slightly hides her face with her long hair. “Well now that Jo has made everything awkward let’s talk business.” Grace says as she brushes the dust from her long black hair. “I told ya two never ta call me Jo.” She says pouting. Grace rolls her eyes “Forgive my loudmouthed friend here…now Mark we told you we needed to speak to you cause we found them. We found Maw and Steel…unfortunately Maw is being held in the asylum for his condition, and Maw is the only one who knows where Steel is…or is the only one willing to tell us.” “What does he want?” “He wants us to break him out.” Jo looks suspiciously at the princess “Maybe we should talk about this in private.” “You are probably right…I’m sorry but we don’t exactly know who you are.” Grace says to Eve. She takes my hand “Come with me to the lower floor Mark and I will tell you what we have learned. Jo, please make our guest feel at home while I catch him up.” A young man sits in the darkest corner of his cell a quiet song playing on his lips. "Clothed in clouds and embraced in the light, Stood his ground, the gallant knight, but swords of sorrow stained his life, now his fear controls his life, light and clouds have disappeared, and claimed his fear to blackest night." he stops for a second his lip quivering slightly, a single tear running down his dusty face. Then he laughs to try and swallow the pain and yells "You know who I am singing about?!" "No...who?" The soldier outside his cell replies. "It's me!" He screams "It's me..." He whispers between broken sobs as he pulls his knees to his chest. "Don't worry 'bout that one Kyle...he's just a nutter like the rest of them." A passing guard tells him. "Whatever you say sir." The young man suddenly hurls himself against the metal door "Don't poison his mind you piece of trash!" He screams at the passing guard "Don't listen to him okay sonny, cover your ears and let daddy handle this." He says pleadingly to the guard known as Kyle. "See what I mean." He laughs. The boy simply backs down and groans in the corner of his cell singing the sad melody. © 2012 StarcallerAuthor's Note
