Sweet DreamsA Poem by WillaDanversDepression has a funny way of workingDepression
has a funny way of working, Having
me doubt everything I love, Keeping
me on my knees in tears, Clutching
at the chains around my ankles, Loving
you with all my broken heart, Wanting
you to keep holding my tight, Hating
myself for keeping you here, Knowing
you could be doing so much better, You
are everything I ever wanted, The
man I dreamed of since I was little, Your
love shouted from the rooftops, Seeping
into my veins, controlling me, You
could be so far ahead of me now, But
you’re standing here loving me, Holding
my hand tight, waiting, Patiently
for me to catch up to you, Wanting
that future you speak of, Us
together at the end of it all, But
knowing that we can’t get there, Because
of the chains around my ankles, Promises
made in sweet dreams, I
want you to have the entire world, Instead
of carrying me forward, While
I tend to that black dog here, Depression
has a funny way of working, Leaving
me questioning the worth, Of
me holding you back from your dreams, Knowing
that you could do so much more, Keeping
me on my knees in tears, Wanting
to love you harder, better, Knowing
that my depression keeps me here, Wishing
to give you the world you deserve. © 2019 WillaDanversAuthor's Note
