By My Side

By My Side

A Poem by WillaDanvers
"

Old Dominion - One Man Band. Inspired me with the happy notes.

"

It doesn’t all seem so scary,

With you by my side,

The dark way ahead of me,

Has a few stars shining now,

It doesn’t all seem so terrible,

Wandering out into the world,

Getting scrapes on my knees,

And bruises on my confidence,

It doesn’t seem like the worst thing,

To get lost amidst the noise,

Knowing that the streets may be unfamiliar,

But the hand holding mine is well known,

It doesn’t all seem so scary now,

Leaving the nest to explore little, by little,

The stars shining on the dewy grass,

And you staying by my side,

The world is a little brighter these days,

It seems so cliché, but baby its true,

I can see my days lit with you,

My memories dancing in tune with yours,

So, I’m going to keep walking,

Getting lost in the city, amongst the noise,

Enjoying the stars in the darkness,

With you by my side.

Somehow if we feel we have someone, even if they aren't with us, that feeling of belonging is so valuable. As a mum and nan, I thought of fledglings leaving the nest but my thoughts also turned to the homeless. Your lines are beautiful.

I have come back to these words for a second time. There is great beauty and meaning in them

Hey Willa
I've been away from the Cafe for a couple of months, which is why I'm only reading this now.
It's amazing how writing about love never becomes a cliche. Such is the purity and iridescence of that emotion.
It always makes me smile when I read or hear or see something born from this emotion, for I feel it is the most important thing for man. :)
