ApprovalA Poem by WillaDanversThe right song at the write timeWe hide in the shadows, afraid, Trembling to the bone, heart quivering, Not of something we have seen, But of something we may become,
Inspiration hits when we survive, Desperation sinks in when we realise, We crave the acceptance and love, From everyone but the one that matters,
Does it matter if we don’t like ourselves? Because at least everyone else approves. Does it matter if we don’t recognize ourselves? Because everyone else knows who we are.
Hence, we hide in the shadows, trembling, Allowing only that of which others approve, To be walking in the light of day, proudly, While we hide to true self behind locked cage,
If everyone approves, then it can’t be wrong. If they like what they see, then we must be blind, Why would you risk the approval and acceptance? Just to show something that we are used to hiding?
Keep it in the shadows, it’s easier. Stop talking about what might be, and listen, Float with the river, follow the sheep, Just do what they say, you’ll be accepted that way. © 2018 WillaDanversAuthor's Note
