A Child's spirit

A Child's spirit

A Poem by WillaDanvers
"

I am in a good place, having just got over the flu!

"
A cosntant wandering in and out of darkness,
Waiting for the phone to stop ringing off the hook,
The blaring silence awaiting its treacherous time,
Hanging over the head of a smiling girl,

The demons she has beaten, aren't forever gone,
It's like a curse, a cancer, invisible but ever present,
Time and again she will curse the hell out of these demons,
And cling to the faith she has in her God,

Questions will always fly through on a string,
Words in her memory, 'Does he really exist?'
Though she always knows, the devil is as tempting as chocolate,
But she must stay strong for that eternal prize,

Her biggest demon, her largest weakness, is herself,
Wanting things of the world, to please other children,
Trying to overcome the natural love she has for her father,
Who has created and forged a way for her to walk,

A love she cannot deny, as much as she tries,
A love so true, she comes crawlings back ashamed and broken,
Asking for forgiveness with a broken heart,
She vows to love always, and to try her best not to fail him,

A willing and faithful child, as he only wants,
Someone who shows the spirit of God, and the love of a child,
Her demons always faught, never to conquer the spirit,
For she, a child of God, believes, loves, and cannot be ultimately swayed.

Not all of you believe in God, Not all of you believe in the same God as I, but that's not the point of this. This is through my own eyes, my own experience, this is my story. And that is all it is.

The speaker in this offering seems to be in an ongoing religious crisis. There is frequent mention of "demons," though these entities are not specifically named. There is the sense that some of these demons have been beaten, but the guard cannot be relaxed. There is also a pervasive feeling of sin and unworthiness. And for what? Wanting "things of the world," whatever that entails. The speaker appears to fail the test often, "crawling back ashamed and broken." To offset this sense of failure, she vows to try her best not to fail him. The words are very heartfelt, but it is painful to read them. It's also mystifying. How is it that a God of love can inspire such self reproach in human beings?

Maybe it is not God himself inspiring such self reproach, but instead again the devil in disguise. W.. read more
