I am broken

I am broken

A Poem by WillaDanvers
"

These are words, and words are fiction.

"

Where were you,

When I needed you the most?

Where were you,

When I was breaking into a thousand?

I needed you to love me,

To tell me that I am enough,

But you walked away laughing,

Disappointed in everything I am,

Losing all respect for someone I know,

Saddened by the spiral that is their life,

Thinking they can do so much better,

If only they tried a little harder,

Turning round and saying I am so much alike,

That person that we both know,

Wanting me to try harder to become,

Someone you can be proud of,

But I am trying,

I am trying so god damned hard,

Why can’t you see that I have reached,

The point of destruction,

Trying to be the idea of perfection,

That you hold above my head,

Constantly bring me down time and again,

When my attempts don’t reach your goal,

I can only go so far,

Before my spirit breaks,

I can only try so much,

Before I lose myself altogether,

But we both know that would make you happy,

Because then you could mould my empty shell,

Into something more desirable to you and your,

Broken dreams of perfection,

When a daughter needs a father,

All she should need is to ask,

When I need you, I can’t ask,

In fear of your laughter at me,

Never reaching your ideals,

I am nothing that you want,

Just an empty something of mistake,

A broken regret of a past,

So I just wanted to thank you again,

For teaching me all the things I’ll never be,

And for allowing me only this one thing,

To be a broken soul,

Thank you for never loving me,

Thank you for casting me aside,

At least I can truly say this one thing,

Father, I am broken, you broke me.

This was such a heartbreaking poem. It's beyond me to try to understand exactly why people talk down other people. Although it's generally because they want to make themselves feel better about their own messed up lives but this person has no excuse. No parent should bring their child in the world just to make them feel as though they don't belong, as though the world is better off without them. If you had to go through your childhood hearing that, even though i know it might not make up for much, I still have to say:
You are smart, and kind, and beautiful, and perfect THE WAY YOU ARE. DON'T LET ANYONE ELSE TELL YOU OTHERWISE.
I'm sorry you had to go through that if this was your real experience :(
If not, my heart breaks for whoever had to go through that

I understand the above lines. When we learn we were left and forgotten. Break our heart. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thank you very much :)
This was heart touching. But judging by your description, if you've written a piece of fiction, even then you've captured all the emotions quite well.

I liked reading this. Good work, WillaDanvers ;)
