Potter and Clay

Potter and Clay

A Poem by WillaDanvers

I write to release the demons from my mind,

I write to stop the cracks forming in my mask,

I write because that is who I am,

The writer, who creates things from words,

I take the demons from my minds,

And twist them into words and phrases,

Until they fit onto the paper,

Until they are made into the thing I desire,

I grasp these thoughts and hold on for dear life,

Smiling all the while, to prevent the cracks,

Perfecting this mask of mine,

Using the demonic clay as my art,

Dreams make us who we are,

Dreams define the future we may or may not have,

My dreams forced me to project my fears into words,

Creating a poet out of me,

I didn’t choose to be a writer,

I didn’t choose to struggle, or to create a mask,

But I did choose to release my demons,

Onto paper, creating art for others to enjoy,

I write to release the pressure,

I write to stop the cracks forming in my mask,

I am the potter,

And the demons are my clay.

Looking for the right words to call this poem is nothing short of impossible because it isn't just one thing or the other, it's a combination and collection of feelings and thoughts that not only relate to writers of all kinds but people as a whole who feel the need to find a way to make their voices heard and their dreams realized on a scale much larger than the one's they were given, this poem speaks volumes

This is an epic poem and a lovely read thank you for writing it

What a wonderful write, will have to say I can relate to this as poetry has always been my release. Sometimes we have to write to remember before we shed off what happens and it escapes to other forms that is better left to a pen, thanks for sharing.

Whoa, this is so amazing and related-able. The last stanza is my favorite it drives who you are home and leaves the reader with understanding. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, and glad you enjoyed the poem :D
very well...

"Dreams make us who we are,
Dreams define the future we may or may not have... " quite an intriguing lines!

how true it is to say that dreams're more like an arc of our life's circumstances which defines who we are before dreaming, & what we become after dream. very nice imagery here.

apart that,

"I didn’t choose to struggle, or to create a mask,
But I did choose to release my demons... "

these lines depicting #writerslife how bizzare it is esp. when demons (thoughts) get "Squirted" into words. it makes me saying that...

"... a person never becomes writer with happiness, perhaps, if he does so, he doesn't fathom the rest of the analogies of #writerslife.. that belongs to "struggle" -- the struggle that creates disturbance in mind all time."

such a "potter" you certainly are, willa.
would be looking forward to reading you work.
