A LightA Poem by Will.AdamsA poem about setting yourself on fire just to keep the one you love warm.
Just as hope threatens to harrow under the gelid gust of the encroaching dark
Swiftly I will come to you, simply to set myself alight- my body on fire One lasting wave of warmth that for you to feel, one last time My heart alive, my body braced in flame My smoldering gift to you, love of mine Consider this no parting kiss, as your lips sear mine This perpetual fiery embrace, it’s yours to bear To hold for the rest of all time I came forth not to save your life, only to lay down mine Let this spark of me spur all the gleaming good in you For I never sought to be your shining rescue Only a guiding blaze set so that you may see even the greatest of darkness through And for your sake I’ve set myself to burn- the pleasure is all mine My arms may have befallen into ash, my only lasting life those stinging embers of the flame But this was a sacrifice made without a shred of shame Because with you my love, I know you’d do just the same © 2014 Will.Adams |
