Paid in BlackA Story by Will RiotA short story I wrote on a whim after seeing a facebook post. It seemed to gain some popularity. I hope you will enjoy it too.
"Old debts!" cawed one of the ravens.
"Old debts," said the Fox "I've paid for this conspiracy. I will not be hunted. " An old narled boot layed on it's side not far from broken branches and twisted tree roots with enough loop in them to grab a man's foot in the heat of a chase. " Coat like yours!" cried another raven as he hopped past a smoking shotgun. "Not like mine." thought Fox. "Mines is a sunrise, his is a sunset." The red pool traveled slowly, soaking in the white snow, spoiling it's purity with crimson. "Blud! Blud!" echoed the ravens. Their chorus rose as they began to swarm the body. Fox trotted off into the sunset, passed the smoking gun, through the broken branches and over the tree roots that now lay sunken in the ground like old fingers. No. Fox would no longer be hunted. © 2016 Will Riot |
