Tender is the Night

Tender is the Night

A Poem by Will Neill
"

A shy young man remains hidden in the shadows but yearns for the strengh to speak to his secret love.

"

‘’Tender is the Night’’

               Tender is the Night

            Of love’s once shining Star

           By heartaches least wanted

               I adore thee from afar

And if my soul could render

All of me I’d give to you

                                                  Along with Cupids sender

Fly an arrow strong and true

       To pierce mine secret admiration

          Which dwells in shadows blue

To crack this shell of coyness

That keeps me far from you

And if my courage is unleashed

               With cupids perfect aim

I’ll find the strength and fortitude

           To speak my humble name

But I can only dream of such liaison

            In my secret prison cell

        That binds me too uncertainty

So mine own passion I must quell

But if such a moment should arise

                 I fear rejection most

So I will hide among the shadows

              And still remain a ghost

                         ************

What an incredibly beautiful poem you have penned here Will Neill. I count myself fortunate that I came across it. Classical in style, and so very touching to read. Congratulations.

Christine Anne-thank you so much for your kind comment.
So often we miss the point of poetry and with this creation you have not. It is smooth and gracefully written. Tender images leap from the page.

Will, Beautifully written. You captured all the feelings of longing that we share for that special someone. If you have not been in the shadows of waiting and wanting you cannot fully appreciate and experience the depth and beauty of true love. Thank you sir, Richie B.

Oh, boy--this could be about the young me. Viewing from afar, hoping for the nerve to talk to her, but so, so afraid of being rejected. Bring on those cupid arrows! Very nice writing, Will.

You are so welcome. I'm sure I will love your stories as well ...
Oh yes, I have been inside this poem in my head. Back in the day I was so shy. I had a major crush on a boy for the longest time but never let him know. I have played the "what if" game with myself many, many times but, life works out the way it is supposed to and mine turned out pretty darn good. I really like this. Bravo!

Love the verse! Written like a true bard of Ulster!

It is a tale that is the story of my life. It must be an Irish thing, or at least a thing of those of us from the northern half of the island! (My folk are from the Breiffne Marches, the border with Leinster / Connaught and Ulster...)
