They Own You

They Own You

They Own You

Liar Pictures, Images and Photos

Smile;

You insignificant deceiver of existence,

-thief of reality,

Isn’t it what they all require of you?

Don’t they expect that?

Bow down to them,

They own you.

Smile;

You pathetic excuse for a life,

-thief of reality,

Isn't that what you have always done?

Don't you live off of your false perfection?

Bow down to them,

They own you.

Smile;

You impostor in the mirror,

-thief of reality,

Won’t they discard you if you don‘t?

Aren’t you frightened that they will abandon you again?

Bow down to them,

They own you.

Smile;

You hypocrite of passion,

-thief of reality,

Won’t you collapse if you don’t?

What if you shatter again?

Bow down to them,

They own you.

Smile;

You waste of space,

-thief of reality,

Isn’t that what you want to do?

So that you can protect what’s inside?

Bow down to them,

They own you.

Nice style and form. Sad to see the person is slave to somebody, but the truth is only weak people people succumb to the control of others.

btw...I do not understand how the questions on the 4th line of each stanza relate to the rest of the stanza, such as "Won’t they discard you if you don‘t?". How does this relate to the impostor in the mirror exactly? Is it a matter of "them" removing the mirror or the person "discarding" themselves by shedding the impostor image?

Wow...I picture a woman putting on her lipstick in the mirror...giving herself a 'pep talk' before going out to entertain her very important husband's friends. (not at all her friends) Such a vivid picture of 'playing for the cameras'. Excellent.

I LOVE THIS! This caught my attention from the very first word that, due to my blurry contact lenses, I thought was "simile". tee hee. Anyway, I really like this because it is so filled with passion and each word is like a stab and a punch. :D

I really like this. I like that you chose the repetition - it lends more power to this piece. I love the word choices and description. And the picture that you chose to go along with it is perfect.

I liked the repetition. It's giving emphasis to the theme. I was thinking this spoke about the masks, different masks, people wore. And, speaking about one, we know, it is almost always synonymous with deception. A great write.

Truly an excellent, bitter, real and true poem. Really impressed by this. It is a subject of which I am passionate to the point of near-terrorism.

Perfectly laid-out, worded and arranged. Powerful. A pleasure to read.

I especially like the repetition of the third line in each stanza because I feel this line is the key to the rest of the poem. By pretending to be, or to feel, something you are not your reality is being warped.
