The Shadowed Gem

I feel like an alluring iridescent gem

Among callous thieves,

Yet,

I feel like a weightless shadow

Among a moonless midnights’ trees.

You all gaze at me with shallow consuming eyes,

Loving sightlessly, you deify me,

But,

Will you ever really see,

The ugliness that I have turned out to be?

Painfully intricate with a message so deeply embedded in the words. I'm not sure exactly how you connect with this poem but gems for me are always such misunderstood creations. They are beautiful but that beauty sometimes cause ugly occurrences because such appearances entice greed. Wonderful metaphor.

Keep Writing. ^___^

We mine gems around the world with so much blood and life lost in the process; but why do we do it?
We do it for their beauty and worth. There is no such thing as an "ugly" gem. Given they come out unrefined, but in no time, they twinkle and glow, radiate the world.

Very nicely done!!!

btw...a moonless midnights’ >>> should be a moonless midnight's

I like this one a lot. I must say that it's different than a lot of poems I've read in that it ends with a question that leaves the reader thinking.......keep up the awesome writing!

well written and i can relate that most times people see in us what they want to see, according to their limited or expanded perception...

Kristy Michelle,
I get the feeling that you are feeling ambivolent...You feel great sometimes and sometimes unnoticed or rejected feeling used by someone in your life...This person has had or has some control in your life and they are causing you to turn into someone that you do not want to be...Am I anywhere near correct? Keep the creative pen flowing..Sunflower

I agree with Kit Kat. It does depend on how you view yourself on the inside. It could all just be in your head. But I completely understand that feeling! I've felt that same one so many times before myself. Don't let it get to you and all will be good soon! : )

In its brevity, your poem shared a personal question 'Who am I to the world?'
Such a moving poem. Thanks for sharing!
