Prologue

Fire rained from the sky upon frozen rock. It sizzled when it fell as the light was quickly extinguished. Though the fire died, the ice remained intact, undamaged. The flames had never fallen here before. It was a stranger to this place, something foreign and unknown because it shouldn't be here. Two worlds subsisted alongside each other -the world of fire, and the world of ice- but never before had they been entwined like this, creating complete havok.

            Our people pass through this land and reflect on what our world looked like before. We remember the smiles and laughs. We remember the beauty that once captivated us. We just creep like shadows among what was once our home, floating along the ice that our ancestors once dwelled upon, trying to ignore our aching hearts. To shed a tear, is to admit defeat. To mutter a cry is to reveal what we are trying to hide.

             I am perhaps the most solem of them all. I will not let myself feel the sting of loss, nor the agony of heartache. I am heartless. I am lifeless.

            As I stare around, I see just how similar our people look. We all have shimmering pale white skin like porchlen and deep blue eyes that can make you feel as though you wre staring into an ocean as the sun went down, reflecting sparkles into your eyes like fireflies. We have long, black hair that flows past our waist in beautiful sleek strands. We have small slender bodies that a godess would envy and sharp milky-white teeth that go unused for violence. We are peaceful yet proud. We are called the Pale Ones, the cold hearted.

            Everyone is quiet and staring around in fear. One among us is the cause of the chaos and we know it, because it would take a true Pale One to be able to destroy us the way we were. It would talke someone who knew every inch of our world and could easily slip through the cracks. But, I know exactly who it was.

            It was me.
