It Was So Hard

It was so hard to get up and face the world today,

And put on the face that I must portray,

 

It was so hard not to cry,

To put on a smile that can be called nothing but a lie,

 

It was so hard to say I was fine,

And try to abide my time,

 

It was so hard to look you in the face,

And hide the pain so that there wasn't a trace,

 

It was so hard to put everything out of my mind,

Everything that has my heart in a bind,

 

It was so hard to pretend that it isn't lurking there beneath the surface,

To ignore that I honestly have no purpose,

 

It was so hard to grit my teeth and smile,

To choke down the bile,

 

It was so hard to hold in my pain,

Because I KNOW that every cry would be in vain...

A lot of pronounced desperation here. If it's actual, I hope it doesn't last for you. We all go through rough spots in life, but if you hang in there, you'll come out the other side, probably wiser.
