Drowning Death SceneA Story by PhoenixDrowning. I am aware of the shortness of this piece, but it was meant to invoke emotion. The fall was almost surreal, as Leo plunged into the rushing water. Immediately, he was pulled along with the current, skin bruising where stones bashed his body. Holding what breath he still had, Leo flailed his arms, desperately scrabbling for the surface. When he finally broke away from the aquatic grasp, he had only a moment's reprieve before being clutched and dragged down again. As the river deepened, Leo flipped and was tossed side to side relentlessly, draining his air. He soon became disoriented, and couldn't tell which way was up. His hands grasped at everything, not minding the flesh scraped from his fingers and palms. When his lungs strained and his vision started to darken, a sudden current pushed him once again to the surface, and onto a soft sand beach. Shocked, Leo spluttered and coughed, welcoming the fresh air. But as he prepared to climb to higher ground, the current of the river swept away Leo's footholds, and he slipped once again into the river's depths. The water held no mercy, as Leo felt his back hit a large boulder, and he was not able to escape the rushing water pinning him there. As he continued to wriggle, his head leaned forward, and the water smashed his skull back into the boulder. This made his jaw go slack, and the muscles in his throat and nose stopped resisting. In a split second, he felt himself be filled with rushing water. His lungs felt as if they were going to erupt, and as he failed to vomit, the acid started to burn his insides. This torment went on for what seemed like ages. Finally, Leo's vision faded completely, and his soul left his body. His bloated corpse was found three days later. © 2015 PhoenixAuthor's Note
