Riptide

Riptide

A Poem by Amortentia03
"

Ever had that one self-destructive friend who keeps shattering the stability you build up for yourself? I do.

"

The signs can clearly mark the danger--

Show you

That you might get pulled under, eaten alive,

Stung, Bitten, Drowned.

But when they’re always there

We learn to disregard them.

If every crash looks a little dangerous,

None of them must be.

If every shadow looks a little suspicious,

None of them must be.

The signs don’t lie though.

Just wait.

The odds are always against someone’s favor.

The arrow pointing to bright red

Contrasts the calm blue,

But the black and white of contrast

Aren’t always true and false.

They’re both there.

Beautiful and horrible. Calm and Destructive.

F**k the signs.

It’s all another risk we have to learn to deal with.

And there’s always a riptide

To pull you back down.
