Broken Days

Broken Days

A Poem by Amortentia03

The first time we saw day break
We weren't sure where it came from.
The awkward first hours pieced together
With crazy plans and sleep deprivation.

Since then, the days have broken ninety-three times
And, without us, ninety-three times they have been fixed.
Each time counting forward
As five o'clock faded into six.

Without any help from us, it rose,
Laying awake to greet us as we would hope and wait
To see what the light of those first rays
Might come to illuminate.

On the ninety-fourth day, it broke again.
This time, I holding the break together, you holding me.
Though it could happen without our help,
It had never shone so brilliantly.
