A Poem by Amortentia03

The knowing looks you give unto me seem

Practiced. A manufactured sympathy.

Eyes focused inward are not prone to see

That uneven steps may tread in a dream.

I imagine clouds lift you to esteem

Above all others. They must always free

Their own--forget he who haven’t the key.

A cruel man must always travel the mean.

Do not expect me to follow your feet

As they stumble forward into the past

To fake and steal what glory you can store.

And things may change, hand in hand we may meet

One day. But synthetic bonds never last,

Only divide to lies that you deplore.

A love for haiku poetry began in college, inspired by its simplicity and depth. The book Blue Harlequin captures these moments beautifully. Read the full article to explore the essence of haiku poetry: https://aoidemagazine.com/what-is-haiku-poetry/
