Cracks

Cracks

A Poem by Whimsy Gonser

My name is written on the wall
In crumbling cracks of gold
My forgotten story read
The tales been falsely told
Beneath the quiet streetlight dance
On shards of paved denial
I've sung the losing battle hymn
But never lost my guile

I've paid the piper every cent
To pass along my grin
To those who called my reverence
A wanderer's nieve sin
And only in the lies of sleep
Will I admit defeat
But as my twilight fades to grey
My strengthened soul will reap

My head will never bow to eyes
Those trifes whose secrets seer
Through gentle glares and sneering smiles
Whose love is fed through fear
This place in time, my darkened path
Will be my own to crawl
My failures won by my own will
My cracks upon gold walls

I left those golden walls when I was 8 and a half...but I know some are still there...our old apartment in the Bronx on Sedgewick avenue still stands sturdy and strong.
Roots are powerful...this poem takes me back there...thank you for that N.E.
