Ungrateful Homless

Ungrateful Homless

A Poem by Luna Zerimar

You were only seventeen years old,
On the street,

Just looking for a home,

Looking for someone who could understand,

Looking for safety from reality..

There was this old woman,

About eighty years old,

She passed by you each & everyday,
She would always ask if you were okay,
Even give you a few cents..

Only one day,
She asked you if you wanted to stay,
Stay at her place,

She helped you up,

& brought you to home,

Months went by & you dropped out of school,
You became an addict,

You started to get rude,

Why act like this?

Is it because the odor of her oldness bothered you?

Was it because,
In your eyes,
Her place was to shabby?

She gave you money,
You spent it on pills,
She gave you water & food,
You gave her attitude,
She gave you clothes,
You brought boys home,

And to think..

While she was giving you all this...

She was poor,
She had torn clothes,

..Barely had food..

But she had a heart,
She was kind,

She tried to help you,

And you gave her nothing back,

You were seventeen years old,
An old woman came by,

Thinking..

You were just looking for a home.
