Composing Cures

Poetry is my therapy. It's a cure.

Across the page I write words,

Words of pain & depression,

They tell my life,

My issues,

My worries,

& everything above,

I write & write until I'm in tears,

But only because I'm free,

Free of the issues,

& the worries,

Free of having to keep my emotions bottled up inside,

Free from the cruelty of reality,

Free from myself,

& time,

I sit down & write,

This is my therapy,

& I don't even realize it,

I look at the page I've just written,

Looking at the beautiful,

Yet desolate lines,

A smile is upon my face,

I feel much better,

I stand & dust my shoulders off,

I'm willing to win the war I carry within myself,

& when I'm starting to surrender,

When I think all hope is lost,

& it looks like I'm going to lose,

I'll run,

Run to survival,

Run to the thing that keeps me alive,

When I reach it,

I'll sit,

Look at the blank piece of paper & everything,

Then I'll write,

I'll write my life,

My issues,

My worries,

& everything above.
