Gems

Gems

A Poem by Wharton
"

Not all gifts are wanted or deserved.

"

Purple gems adorn her neck
a gift from he who loves her.

Striating jewels along her wrists
from he who chose to hold her.

Make-up veiled beneath an eye
where love had proved its passion,

and long sleeved shirts with turtlenecks
complete this lover's fashion.

It's not as it seems. They are gems but not in the least precious.

No, they are no, at least not how I see (read) those gems.
That is the kind of jewellery so many women get, tokens of what some men call love.
Insane passion that can't be called love.
very good imageries and the gems as metaphor to bruises (if I'm reading correctly) is well done.

This such a talented wright. The way you compare the abuse to beautiful things is sadly too true for many women who think they are still loved with these jewels that other women don't receive. I love the rhythm and rhyme of it as well.

Nice rhyme and flow.
Beautiful jewels don't mean that one loves them. She could be unhappy, and pretend to love the jewels, or she could be a gold-digger and take the jewels, and only pretend to be there for the love.
