Untruthful Alliance

 

 

Respect is a beautiful color

A sword in the hand of the strong

And a smileless delight

In eyes of others

 

 

Respecting oneself

Is only the beginning

Of a journey for you to behold

It is to impart repentance for sinning

And appreciate the young and the old

 

Respect gives rise

To love and sincerity

And dries insignificance

In the sun-bathed clarity

 

Within we find courage

And yielding spirits we find without

Respect is to devote compliance

Into what we could breathe without

 

It is to know stolen defiance

Against an untruthful alliance

Of lost familiar trails

Falling into plagued denials

 

Murmurs of Lucifer beautified

In false perfumes of unripe wings

Cherished, overused and undermined

But to think that integrity of kings

Had been long ago disqualified

 

And until all is undone my poetry sings

Respect is a beautiful, abused thing

I really enjoyed the first stanza! Smileless desire invokes a powerful, conflicting image, and forces a pause to consider. I enjoyed the fluid language of the poem, and the respect it earns.
