Spring Onion

Spring Onion

A Poem by YouoweYoupay
"

I'm not living in isolation...

"

But in my defense,
I tried to explain,
I was not living in isolation
I simply had no need of a friend
who can only teach me how
To be a can of tomato sauce

What human of sound mind
would want to bite
Into the cold aluminum?
Who actually craves
the taste of sodium benzoate?

I would rather
Keep close
The friends who
Are kind enough
To show me how
To become a shoot
Of spring onion.

Wonderfully savory
With stir-fry noodles
And braised chicken thighs.
A subtle crunch
And also rich in vitamin C
Have I mentioned this?

Pungent and volatile
Yes. But only sometimes
And not with the intention
Of being a bully.
But as a means of
Self-preservation
You understand.

I had to stop after the first stanza because I was laughing. It reminds me of so many people that I don't want to be friends with. Odd how stupid and talkative go hand in hand, the only people whose opinions I'd like to hear are the ones least likely to give it. This was a terrific use of metaphor. Good words.

Btw- I just discovered "read requests" as a function of the site, sorry if it took a while.

Great little metaphor here. Why live in a can when you have the universe at your fingertips. Some people can make you feel claustrophobic. You know I do love spring onions. They are so versatile in cooking. Cold or hot, they add a kick.

You are very welcome :)
I think I do know what you mean. We should all transmogrify into various root vegetables in order to personify our personalities. And be cooked. I think? I don't know. I liked this poem. High five. Three thumbs up. Ten stars.

P.S. I would be a potato. Very good roasted and pairs well with cheese.

You've got good taste. Potatoes make me happy. Thank you for reviewing Spring Onions! :)
Thank you for bringing me to an exquisite orgasm! Wow! That was satisfying! This expresses something I've come to realize more & more in my old age. I just can't deal with people who are inside a predictable can. I can try to placate & get along, but eventually my pungent onion stink will come across strongly. God, I love you for writing this! It's a celebration of those who love solitude & who will only interrupt it for the most inspiring of individuals (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I KNOW. Food is my specialty. :D Thank you for reviewing Spring Onion. Much appreciated.
Indeed those who would restrain ones growth inside a solid tin can rather than allow organic growth to flourish are the best people to have around. An interesting piece of fiesty metaphor.
