Spring Onion

Spring Onion

A Poem by YouoweYoupay
"

I'm not living in isolation...

"

But in my defense,
I tried to explain,
I was not living in isolation
I simply had no need of a friend
who can only teach me how
To be a can of tomato sauce

What human of sound mind
would want to bite
Into the cold aluminum?
Who actually craves
the taste of sodium benzoate?

I would rather
Keep close
The friends who
Are kind enough
To show me how
To become a shoot
Of spring onion.

Wonderfully savory
With stir-fry noodles
And braised chicken thighs.
A subtle crunch
And also rich in vitamin C
Have I mentioned this?

Pungent and volatile
Yes. But only sometimes
And not with the intention
Of being a bully.
But as a means of
Self-preservation
You understand.

Very cleaver, this poem of whimsical humor and lighthearted thought, mixed with the onion, tomatoes sauce, & just a sprinkle of aluminum granules. Mmmm, how sweet it is. LOL

I love this! Yes, I totally know what you mean! I love the metaphors and the wording. It's just absolutely brilliant and I've never seen someone use metaphors in such an interesting way. Why use your life to remain where you are, in such a tiny can, when no one rules your life and you can do what you want? I really loved this and it was certainly uplifting to read!

now garlic, there's a bully

Yes, not a can of tomato sauce, but something with layers...
Layers that someone would be willing to pare in order to really get to know who we are.

A good pungent and only volatile for protection.
I get it because was that onion, but now feel more like the can of tomato sauce.
And the sauce that pours out is ink from my pen. Maybe it is as shallow and empty as the can it comes in.

Yes, love the comparisons! Don't keep those friends around, be a spring onion or pearl, your choice.

A friend in need is usually a friend you don't need.
In saying that, a friend who lends you an onion is a friend with multiple layers.

No. I don't know what you mean.

I do understand my friend. Few people I need now. I prefer the kind friends. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.
