Black FingernailsA Poem by YouoweYoupayRemember?
Remember when I forgot you were there? Our bedroom window was too small To view any starlight.
Remember that tree with long, gentle shades? Our photo galleries? Mine was blue, And yours soft pink. We had left so many pages to fill.
Remember when I sat on the schoolyard fence An Oxford dictionary my only friend And yours were snotty girls They went and came and left you And then painted their nails in black.
Remember our plan? I still have the paper folded, Secretly in a little book. My naive calculations, routes of escape, And an apology for a conclusion.
Remember when my back felt like a lightpole? Tall for all to see, but bended and heavy. Glancing at your empty bedside. I wish it still had your scent. © 2012 YouoweYoupayAuthor's Note
