The Writer

The Writer

A Poem by Sam

Dauntless,

He raises his sword,

Ready to slay the mighty beast!

No…

Dragons are over-done.

There he stood,

Drowning me in his ocean blue eyes…

No…

Love stories are far too bothersome.

I could feel her heart beating,

Against my ice cold hands.

As her breaths steadied,

I went in for the kill.

Yes,

That’s perfect!

But where do I go from there?

How do I set my writing apart,

From everyone else’s?

How do I make my dauntless hero,

Different from Bilbo Baggins?

How do I make my star crossed lovers,

Different from Hazel and Gus,

Romeo and Juliet,

Allie and Noah,

Katherine and Heathcliff?

How do I make my perfect serial killer,

Different from Dexter,

Hannibal Lector,

Patrick Bateman?

I am a writer,

I live to write.

But how can I write,

Something that’s never been written?

Awesome, the perplexing saga every writer encounters so beautifully expressed. Truly the challenge, how do we set ourselves apart from everyone else? Well done.
