For the Young and Naive

For the Young and Naive

A Poem by Sam
"

A poem that expresses the frustrations of "falling" for the wrong people.

"

Time and time again

I fall

For those pesky words

I fall

For the sincerity

I fall

For the feeling of being swept off my feet

I fall

And I fall

Expecting to be picked up

I fall

Expecting things to be different

I fall

With such optimism,

Such grace

I fall

And it sickens me

I fall

And it kills me

It kills me

To feel so weak

 It kills me

To be so naïve

It kills me

To think that I ever even cared

It kills me

To see the hold you had over me

It kills me

and I can't help

but get butterflies

every time you text.

Butterflies

every time you say my name

Butterflies

every time I imagine your face

Butterflies

every time I feel your touch,

Butterflies

every time I taste your lips...

Time and time again

And I f*****g hate

every God damned minute of it.

Author's Note

Sam
This was written under a great deal of stress and anger. My anger has fled, but I felt this should still be shared. If it sounds choppy, ignore the line breaks and read it in whatever way makes sense to you. I never said I was a poet.
