Forty-Three

But ere this boy we come to know

Our own acquaintance let us grow.

Rising from the sand we met

In ocean's vastness damp and wet.

Alone was each before we join'd

Such as one of a set purloin'd.

Under the sand you grasped me tight

Feeling me twist to left and right.

Of Guy I was yet unaware.

"Neath ocean sand, I dallied there

Dreaming of heights to which I'd rise.

Only if twinn'd I'd reach the prize.

Grown out of nowhere , feeling a lack,

Resolv'd to go forward, not to go back.

Unknowing of how, why or where I began

Dare I attempt to face life as a man?

A head with no body and yet with such heart,

Such skills, such knowledge, such magical art.

The most I can do and the best I can be

Is all to be found inside round little me.

Now, here, in this moment's the time to be free.

So, Guy, here we are, best of friends, comrades twain,

Pair'd as a body, creating one brain.

Alone and together, we learn from each other

The things that a brother can teach to a brother.

Until with a victory our questing is done

Let's share with each other the toil and the fun

And when we're divided, we still will be one.

"I don't know if you could tell, but that is what is known as an acrostic."
