Then he began to notice an unusual sensation in his hand. There had been a slight feeling of warmth when he had first grasped the sword. And now it transformed to something else. An unfamiliar vibration began to travel through his hand and up his left arm. As though an electric pulse was slowly moving past his elbow and up towards his shoulder. Without thinking about it, he slowly brought his other hand around and clasped it over his left. He was still sitting on the rim of the fountain and his upper body was stretched in a somewhat awkward position, turned as far as it could go towards where the sword had risen from the water. Unaware of any awkwardness, he now felt the electric sensation enveloping his right hand. Once past his left shoulder, it began to suffuse his torso, moving across his chest and back and down towards his legs. His eyes were fixed on the sword, but in his peripheral vision, it seemed as if his arms, in their short sleeves, were starting to glow. He looked down at his hands and saw that there was a brightness to them. No longer was he only seeing them by the sword's glow. He couldn't tell if the light was coming from inside them or if it was just radiating off the surface of his skin, but he could see every minute detail of fingernail and wrinkle and tiny blemish. Meanwhile, the sensation that had commenced with his grasping of the sword had suffused his torso and was now travelling downwards through his legs. He could feel it almost to his knees. He had hardly moved a muscle since he had joined his right hand over his left. His eyes had reverted from his shining hands back to the brightly glowing blade of the sword. Then he noticed that, although the electric feeling had travelled up to his neck, it seemed to spread no further. He head felt no special tingle. The energy had moved through his feet and, though he didn't move his eyes from the sword, he was pretty sure that by this time his whole body would be radiating light. Except for his head. He wondered if there was something wrong. He found he wanted the sensation to fill his entire body, leaving no part untouched. He felt so strong, so aware of himself, so vibrant, so alive!

Then, still without looking, he became aware that Nol and Bev had risen, on either side of him, from their seats on the grass. Also without turning from the direction he was facing, he sensed that there were now more than three people in the small clearing. Many more. It suddenly occurred to him that everyone who had been in the building that had burned was now here with him and Bev and Nol.

And now he was completely filled with light-energy from the sword and felt ready to accomplish anything.
