Guy--Part Seven

Splog # 22

Seven

   As he finished drinking and lifted his head, Guy felt himself being lowered back to the floor. When he looked down to see what had happened, there was no trace of anything but the ground underneath his feet. He lifted one foot and looked, put it down, lifted the other foot and looked. But there was really nothing to see except the hard packed earth.

   "Don't think too much about it," said Splog. "It's about time we got down to why you're here."

   Guy was still looking at the floor so Splog tried to get his attention by calling his name.

   "Eric?" No response. Once again. "Eric!"

   There was still no response so Splog walked over to Guy and put one finger under his chin and lifted his head so they were looking into each other's eyes.

   "I guess everything is a little overwhelming but we'll sit down and I'm sure a little conversation will straighten things out and you'll be as right as rain. What do you say, Eric?"

   "If you please, Mr. Splog. My name isn't Eric."

   It was Splog's turn to seem disconcerted. He went back and sat down by the stump with the bowl. He reached in, retrieved a tomato and took a bite out of it. Then, he got up and went to the shelf with the book on it. He reached behind the book, took out a small bag, put his hand into the bag and brought out a pinch of something and sprinkled it on the tomato. He took another bite, put the bag back and then resumed his seat by the stump.

   "Would you be so kind as to tell me what your name is?" he finally said.

   "My name is Guy."

   "Guy?"

   "Yes, Mr. Splog. My name is Guy....Is that alright?"

   "Well, of course. Your name is Guy. Of course that's alright. So you're Guy. That must mean that Eric will be the other one. Of course....Well, now that that's settled, Guy, why don't you have a seat and we'll discuss what needs to be discussed."
