Chain Smoke

Chain Smoke

A Poem by Wasteofpaint666

My cigarette is talking back more than you,

So I chain smoke and choke on what I think you want to say,

I said I'd quit but the nausea in my heart can't be any more steady than a rocking chair on a porch in a storm,

"Love me," I said, and you stared right back.

And you say it but I don't believe you

the same way you don't trust me with lack of reason.

I can be a queen for you but only if you give me the crown

cause stealing is for thieves,

And the last time I stole it landed me on my back with a broken soul.

And I gave the pieces because your heart is pure

or from what I can see of it anyway.

So put them together or give them back,

Because I have no time to sit and watch you move them around like a child who doesn't want to finish his plate.
