I CHOOSE TO BE BLIND

I CHOOSE TO BE BLIND

A Poem by Wasekera S Chiphazi Banda

On the highest peek I stand
and stare at the world
I have become a stranger in my own home
From a distance it's all clear
All the the lies told and the cruelty showed.

Bones become flesh as as I question
my empathy
A child goes to bed with an empty stomach
Yet I choose to throw food to the dogs.
Its what the world has become
We don't question immorality

I found happiness in cold places
Danced to beats that were poison to others
I'm shocked as silence screams in my ears
I question my humane
As my neighbour is at loss and they weep
but i choose to feast
It's what the world has become
We don't question our choices

I laugh when some mourn
The world at war but I'm caged in selfishness
and I am at peace.
I ignore situations
so I shouldn't be questioned

To pain
To hurt
To misery
and to despair
I choose to be blind

Hi, great poem. "The world at war but I'm caged in selfishness and I am at peace." So sad, yet so true.
