My Last Seconds

My Last Seconds

A Poem by Charles Donahou III
"

The Last Moments on the Cross

"

Here I hang on this cross of pain
Covered in a crown of dark thorns
God has won, I won't die in vain
Look, I see my friends who still mourn

Painful nails in my hands and feet
Sadness comes on this darkened day
A dark storm rises, rain follows sleet
Close to Jerusalem, I pray

I am known throughout all this strife
I'm Jesus Christ, God's beloved Son
I'm the Way, the Tuth, and the Life
Pain leaves my body, it is done

I look to the heavens above
At the place where angels fly
Praise God's glory and faithful love
Letting out my last breath, I die

Pleasant. It contrasts sharply to the traditional image of Jesus suffering on the cross. Except for the 'painful nails,' this sounds almost like he is beyond suffering. He sees angels, signifying his divine purpose.
