Duathlon

Duathlon

A Poem by Alexander Dillon
"

Processing my Grief One Poem and Life-event at a time.

"

I raced my first Duathlon this weekend and

Mom

You would have been proud.

You would have been proud.

At some point.

At some point before the suicide.

At some point before the sickness.

Long ago you stopped caring, engaging, asking

As your sanity slipped.

I lost you long before

The world did.

This weekend’s triumph comes at a cost.

The cost

Of realizing you’ll never share in the long line of “firsts” I am yet to have.
