It is interesting how forever can become a fraction.

Two Hundred Thirty Eight
Instagram posts
On your wall.
Thirty Eight are of me.
Of us.

That is approximately sixteen percent.
Four years.
Four years of memories,
Laughs,
Experiences.

Four years of life
Shared
Between us.
But the summation of

Three military balls,
Three deeply satisfying collegiate XC seasons,
Three sunny excursions to Olcott Beach,

Two overseas adventures,
Two shared university classes,

One unbelievable friendship,

And countless other precious moments
Only amounts to sixteen percent.

I will take that sixteen percent.
I will cherish it forever.

Sixteen percent of dear moments.
Sixteen percent of your life's total love.
Sixteen percent that we were sure was infinite.

That sixteen percent will dwindle
Away
As your life experiences continue to flourish.
Yet I will forever remain
One hundred percent grateful
For that sixteen percent.

A very innovative way to include Math in a poem and finding a way to make it a love poem. Its quite romantic. If you find a way to include detailed descriptions in it of the experience and the person in the poem, I think the reader would capture more the theme of unending love and the emotions evoked would perhaps be much felt. Otherwise, this is a great poem, short and intense.

Thank you so much much for sharing this poetic reality.
It captures my attention, prey on my mind and I kept on wandering in its circle of unique lines until the last word told me nothing was left.
It's a good one.

100% effective. When it's all done and only one remains that one soul can look at every moment from every angle possible.

An interesting poem. Unique and clever usage of mixing maths and your relationship into the equation. And making a thoughtful intriguing tale.

Heartwrenching in such a wonderful way. I too love the use of math to quantify time and love: it makes me wonder whether the poet is being at all ironic while also empathizing with what must be a vast and deep pain with much truth in the metaphor. This is a really succinct and tightly crafted heartbreak poem.

Thanks for the review Caroline. I am glad that you enjoyed it.
A bittersweet saga of love and how it ends. In today's technological world, there is a paper trail that the world can see, but only you carry the memories in our heart. Beautifully written. Lydi**
