What you are, what you are notA Poem by The Warrior PoetFor my wife, Jenn, Mother's Day, 2004What you are, what you are not You are… the island in my ocean, the lighthouse in my storm, the candle in the window leading home. You are not… my cloak against the cold, nor umbrella in the rain. You’re not my battered wall of rock and stone. You are… the holder of my heart, you are she who keeps me hoping. You’re so very ‘there’ for me in everything I do, that even when you’re not, I’m not alone. You are… the beauty of a beam of sunshine in the dark of my darkest nights, the strongest but kindest person I have ever seen. You are not… my shield, deflecting sword, nor are you my tarnished armor, but still you make me feel like a warrior king. You are… the holder of my heart, and the hearts of our five young princes. We will always be here for you, for we all love you dearly. In our eyes, you are a Warrior Queen. David L.
