Coke Bottle Candy Money

Coke Bottle Candy Money

A Poem by The Warrior Poet
"

This is a true memory of mine. Young people won't understand, but if you're old enough to remember getting money for used coke bottles, this one's for you...

"

I’d set out on the voyage twice a week,

pulling my little red wagon along behind.

I’d search for coke bottles everywhere

and place inside my wagon all I’d find.

And so I’d go, along the route,

collecting bottles along the way

until finally arriving at the little store

to cash in the bottles and get paid.

Over to the candy counter,

to spend my hard earned money.

and not one single time,

did I stop and think it funny….

that by the time I got back home,

with my little red wagon pulled after

I never had a thing to show,

No bottles, no money,

not even a candy wrapper…
