Body of the Earth

Body of the Earth

A Poem by Warrick
"

One of October's Omissions; 2009.

"

Fingertips and claws
Pluck these heart strings for a song
Always out of tune
But the melody is strong

Palms of hands and paws
Slap the body of the Earth
Searching for the perfect beat
The pulse hidden in the sea
And all the swaying trees

Haunches sway, legs that move
From dusk to dawn to day
Herald the sun
The moon...
The scattered stars
And sattelites -
Lost in orbit; out in the fray...

Sing all the words that no one hears
Whispered in the weaving winds -
The rain's ever cooling tears

Mouth and maw tilt toward the skies
Gnaw the horizon for a line
To piece together this twisting rhyme
Compose it all in the water's fall
Flowing out and spreading
Sounds for everyone to dance
Even when it seems there's nothing left
No memory to grin in remembrance... .. .

Fingertips and claws
Pluck these heart strings for a song
Out of tune but not quite gone
Resting; perched on quiet stones
Staring out at the unknown

The songs of Earth are always home
Even if the lights are gone
Even if the words are naught
You'll find the songs...

In heart and silent hands.
