A Lapse in the Day

A Lapse in the Day

A Poem by Warrick
"

"

Is there anything
Behind the sun
Eyes can't see

The words: Forever blinding...

Drifting...
Away...

What's that you've said now?
There's been a lapse in the day...

Something was missing
I'm sure that I strayed
A willful departure
From the path weaving straight
To where I thought I had wanted
To go the other day...

Yet I find myself brushing
Past tangled shrubs
Standing stones
And thorns
Too inane to hold names...

So what is this feeling
This undefined pang,
weaving slow through-out me?

I sit with the stones
I mimic their ways
We look up past the arms
Of trees that don't sway
The breeze here is naught
So not are the waves
No ripples in time
On the surface of a lake
Just to the right -
Over shoulder and gray
Here we all sit
All nestled quietly
Away from the weight
Of a world in shades...

What's that you've said now?
There's been a lapse in the day
I thought I was missing
Something I couldn't say...

Something I couldn't hold
Something... .. .

But as the sun warms
This spot where I lay
I really don't think
It was... .. .

Because you're there
Just to the left
Shoulder to mine
Watching the sun now
Eyes fixed to a point

It seems we're both trying to find
What we've not spoken 'twixt breaths
...
Little do we know
It's been here all along
Hiding just behind breasts:

The beasts dwelling in
Our hearts
Where we merge and connect...
.. .

So, is there anything
Anything left
To be looking for
Behind the sun
Starting to set?

The words we needn't say
Casting glances between

All we have is here
Here is where we'll remain
Rest your head next to mine
Bring the lapse of the day
Time can't take
The nondescript away...

My lips twitched
I thought I said;
"I love you."

...What...
Did you say... .. . ?
