That Day

That Day

A Poem by Warren L.G De Mills
"

A black verse description of heartbreak

"

That day came like a thunder out of heaven

A falling rain spewed from the mouth of gods

Unending plague of heartbreak and soul-ache

That severed heart, deceptive love masquerade

Like a ripening destruction, inevitable end

That day divided my destiny between darkness

And a doomed depression to walk the world

As a loner, a widower, man without woman

A chasm grows in the sinews of my soul

Separating you from me because of that day

Your decision deepened my sorrows like

Dominating dusk, subduing the coming dawn

With a woman's words a man's hope is broken

By the whim of wonder and the way of waste

The smile of a satisfied man is drowned in the

Deluge of mournful tears from sorrowful cries

Forged from the fires of bereavement, sadness

Swallows the last ray of hope spiraling downward

Into the strongholds of the final spire of a smile

Suffocating it to surrender to the pain inside

The succumbing joys spawn cancerous waves

Of effervescent apparitions of memories of love

Reminiscent specters of broken promises and

Cherished dreams and the bleakness they bear

That loathsome day conjured demons in my heart

That evoke images of cascading silhouettes dancing

To beckon the other to fall into their welcoming embrace

As they sing together in chorus of eternity's beauty

That day crushed my hopes and broke every promise

That day ended my joy and condemned my pride

That eventful day when you chose two words to say

“It's Over” A terrible two word attempt at goodbye

Then went on to explain reasons I can't remember.....

You have perfectly described a single moment of heartbreak, quite elaborately. And you're vocabulary and usage of words is pretty awesome. :)

Those final words, "It's Over," says it all. The final stabbing of the knife through the heart which ends love forever. Your words cause me to relive my own past memories of lost love. Great use of simile. Well now, I feel quite awful.

These are not just plain words but your true emotions that you have articulated extremely well. The pain can be felt by anyone who reads it! Nicely put and truly sentimental! Well done!

You talked of blows after blows and the climax in the last verse was structured so that it echoed in my mind even after I had finished reading it. The words reflect unbearable grief and a sense of helplessness at what is happening. Well written.

Your response ought to convince her of the depth of the love you felt for her. Nice!
